Major manned station and junction on the  Port Augusta-Hawker Line  and the  Peterborough-Quorn Line .

Multiple Loops and sidings for station, goods, grain and fuel depot plus loco servicing facilities.

The Port Augusta-Hawker Line was owned by the Commonwealth Railways but was operated by the SAR. This line originally extended all the way to Alice Springs at the centre of the continent, 1220km from Port Augusta. The narrow gauge section to Hawker was bypassed in the 1930s and then replaced by a standard gauge line on a new alignment in the 1950s.

After the Port Augusta-Hawker and Peterborough-Quorn lines were closed, Quorn became the operations centre for the Pichi Richi Railway, a preserved narrow gauge steam railway running from Quorn to Port Augusta.
