[edit] About these tools

These tools are created by myself (shaneturner12) in order to assist Trainz users.

I have created a range of tools to enhance certain aspects of Trainz. All of these can be downloaded from my tutorial website unless otherwise stated.

I am aware of an issue involving Norton antivirus products and my tools, but the issue is relating to their reputation system.

This page is a work in progress - information is subject to change.

Note that all of these tools require .Net Framework 2.0 to operate, and full permissions in order to write to certain areas. In addition to this, the PC Information Application and the DirectX Install Helper Utility require access to the Internet to perform some or all of their functions.

Tool List

[edit] PC Information Application

This tool is a multipurpose tool, and has the following uses:

  • Displaying and saving/copying of your system specifications
  • Network Diagnostic feature for checking whether certain N3V servers are available
  • Trainz Build Finder - this replicates the info given within Trainz
  • Limited Patch Finder - this can assist in the download and installation of most manual patches (at the moment, it does not recognise TS12 SP1 patches - I plan to update the program to allow this in the future)

The tool can be downloaded from my utilities page on my tutorial site.

[edit] Trainz Protocol Changer

This tool can be used to change/fix/create the following file associations that Trainz uses:

  • .CDP/.CDP2 files (Content Dispatcher Packs)
  • .CMPA files (Content Manager Plus Archive)
  • trainz:// addresses (these are used by the Download Station and third-party sites)

It can do this by modifying the registry information that controls these associations, and the program can do one, two or all of the above associations.

The tool can be downloaded from my utilities page on my tutorial site.

[edit] Permission Generating Tool

This tool is to help configure specific folders in order to set the required permissions for the user that is running the tool in order to read/write to the folder. This is a command-line tool, and requires the full path of the folder to be entered.

It will take a while to do it's job though if there are a lot of files/subfolders.

The tool can be downloaded from my utilities page.

[edit] DirectX Install Helper Utility

This tool is to assist in the download and installation of the DirectX runtime files as supplied by Microsoft. It's a one-click command-line application that will automatically download and install DirectX 9.0C (current version).

The tool can be downloaded from my Updating DirectX page - there is a link to the relevant forum thread on that page as well.
