Unmanned station and terminus on the  Gladstone-Wilmington Line . The town of Wilmington is located about half a mile to the west of the station.

Station and goods loops, a grain siding, loco coaling and watering facility. A turning WYE.

Proposals were made to extend the line from Wilmington to Quorn or Port Augusta but never progressed to firm plans.

The Gladstone-Wilmington Line is unsignalled. Normally only a single train is permitted on the line at any one time.

There were no passenger services after 1969. The line was closed in 1990 and the track from Melrose to Wilmington has been converted into a rail trail.
