A scenario in the SAR Peterborough Base Session v2.0

Express transcontinental freight services running between Broken Hill, Port Augusta, Terowie and Gladstone. At Peterborough some services are divided for different destinations and/or combined with additional rolling stock. Bottom

Through Freight
 Era:  1920s to 1969
 Duration:  2 to 6+ hours depending on the run selected
 Locos: 
At Paratoo
At Quorn  Loco Depot 
 
At Terowie  Loco Depot 
 
At Peterborough  Loco Depot

Getting Started:
  1. If you have already closed the opening message window then the first step is to pause the session by pressing the  P  key.
  2. If you decide to set the session clock to a different starting time then follow the instructions shown in the Orders section below
  3. Select a specific freight service starting at any of Paratoo, Terowie or Quorn from the timetable shown in the Orders section below.
  4. Next locate a suitable loco at the starting location. Either:-
    • Open the Finder Tool (press  Ctrl   F ) and type, in the Name field, the name of the loco, for example SAR T 250 (or just T 250 should be enough). Click the tick icon, OR
    • Open the Driver List (bottom left of the screen) and then scroll through the list to find either:-
    • the loco name (e.g. SAR T 250) OR
    • the driver icon (e.g. named Driver 250) - this is a non-animated icon
    then click the drivers Eye icon Driver Eye.png to take control of the loco
  5. Take a few moments to get your bearings. Click Paratoo Data Ter0wie Data or Quorn Data (the link will open in this window) to show the details and track plans at each location. In each location details page:-
    • the Tab HM White.png tab gives an overall summary of each location with a "potted" history (where available).
    • the Tab TM Grey.png tab reveals the invisible TM Track Marks for Drive To commands.
    • the Tab IN Grey.png tab lists all active industries and their commodities.
    • the Tab SW Grey.png tab describes the names, locations and settings of all junction switches as well as some switch sets you may want to use.
  6. Each location details page has direct links to the adjacent locations so you can explore along the route.
  7. When you are ready to start, reload the Peterborough Base Session page (click the Scenarios button on your current location page) and select this Scenario again or just use the Back button on your browser - whichever is quicker.
  8. Switch back to Trainz Driver Mode
  9. Close the opening message window and, if Pause is shown on the screen, press the  P  key to start the session.

Orders:
    • At Paratoo move out of the  Loop  and onto the main line. Take water, if needed, at Paratoo or Nackara
    • At Terowie move the loco from the  Depot .
      • If the Terowie Shunter scenario has been not been completed then run that scenario. It will take approximately 50 minutes.
      • If the scenario has been completed then collect the loaded wagons waiting on the  Relief  road in the main Terowie Yard
    • At Quorn move the loco from the  Depot .
      • couple to the wagons waiting in the Quorn  Goods Loop .
  1. Proceed as per the working timetable shown below to a suitable vacant road in Peterborough  Yard .
  2. Coal and water the loco at Peterborough Main  Loco Coal & Water  Stage as needed
  3. Some of the trains have to be divided at Peterborough and may have to be combined with other wagons waiting there

At Peterborough

Train 820 from Paratoo
  • Those wagons with Terowie in their names are to form one train with wagons stored on Peterborough  Goods Sidings 1  that also have Terowie in their names. Form this consist on a vacant Yard Road
  • Those wagons with Gladstone in their names are to form another train on a different Yard Road with wagons stored on Peterborough  Goods Sidings 1  that also have Gladstone in their names. Select a Guard Van from the shed and attach it to the rear of this train
  • Those wagons with Port Augusta in their names are to form another train on a different vacant Yard Road
    • On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays shunt the wagons waiting on Peterborough  Goods Sidings 1  that also have Port Augusta in their name onto the waiting consist
    • On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Port Augusta wagons are to be stored on the now vacant Peterborough  Goods Sidings 1  for pickup by a later service (train 320)
  • After shunting has been completed
    1. reattach SAR T 250 (or an alternative loco) to the front (western or Gladstone end) of the Gladstone train
    2. select an available loco from the main  Depot  and attach it to the front (eastern or Terowie end) of the Terowie train
    3. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays select an available loco from the main  Depot  and attach it to the front (western or Gladstone end) of the Port Augusta train
    4. proceed with each train to its destination (Gladstone, Terowie or Quorn) choosing a suitable location at the destination to detach the wagons
    5. proceed to the local  Depot  to service the locos
Train 320 from Terowie
  • Those wagons with Peterborough in their names are to be shunted to a vacant yard road or siding
  • On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Port Augusta wagons stored Peterborough  Goods Sidings 1  are to be combined with those in Train 320
    1. reattach the loco (or an alternative loco) to the front (western or Gladstone end) of the train
    2. proceed with the train to a vacant Quorn  Yard 
    3. detach the wagons and move the loco to the Quorn loco  Depot  for servicing
Trains 920 and 921 from Quorn
  • coal and water the locos as needed. You can optionally swap them with another suitable loco available at the main Peterborough loco  Depot 
    1. proceed with each train to its destination (Terowie and Paratoo) choosing a suitable location to detach the wagons
    2. proceed to the local  Depot  to service the locos

Port Pirie-Broken Hill Line Peterborough-Terowie Line Peterborough-Quorn Line
  • The approaches to all locations are protected by invisible signals to prevent the AI Half Speed Slowdown Problem when approaching a signal at stop.
  • Trackmarks and industries have been provided for AI Drive To Trackmark, Drive via Trackmark and Drive to  Industry  commands. Click Location Index for details.
  • Manual (no AI) driving is possible. As a visual driving aid, a Caution warning sign has been placed at the location of the Main Approach Dn and Main Approach Up trackmarks. Click Location Index for details.
  • If driving manually in yards, you are responsible for correctly setting any catch points.
