This item is part of the equipment provided to simulate the working of the Advance Warning System (AWS) in British Rail locomotive cabs. See the AWS overview for overall functionality and usage.

While AWS is primarily an audible system, a visual reminder of the most recent AWS interaction is indicated by this 'Sunflower' display.

If you have acknowledged an AWS warning using the AWS Cancel Button, the sunflower will show it's yellow pattern:

If you have been given an all clear indication by the AWS, then the display will clear to black:

If you have isolated the AWS using the AWS Isolation Switch, then a red cross will be displayed over the AWS sunflower to indicate that it has been isolated:
