As of TS2009, Trainz Surveyor allows a different ground type for each baseboard. The route creator can choose between flexibility, detail and performance as appropriate for different parts of the route.

Ground Types

From TS2009 onward, Trainz releases now include the following ground types:

  • Classic, 10m grid - This is the original Trainz ground type.
  • Classic, 5m grid - This ground type uses the classic texturing technique, but stores four times the number of sample points.
    • Great for fine detail around the track, but as always in computing with detail increases, overuse could adversely affect performance.

Surveyor Tools

The extend tool has been enhanced to allow you to specify the ground type for newly placed baseboards. Right click on the tool icon to adjust the default.

The extend tool also allows you to convert existing, completed baseboards to a different ground type. Clicking onto a baseboard section will adjust it to your preselected default ground type.

Trainz User Tip:
Please be aware that adjusting the ground type will not necessarily make your creation appear more detailed - you'll need to give it a working over at the new detail level to properly utilize the increased depth of texturing and grading possibilities.

  • More attachment points are present, but it is up to the route builder to use them properly.
