"Trainz: A New Era, Community Edition" is a pre-release version of the TANE project, N3V Games' major overhaul of the Trainz game engine. This version of the game is a rewrite and rethink of the majority of the game, but includes a focus on compatibility with existing content. The Jet render engine, which powered Trainz between 2001 and 2012, is replaced with a new purpose-build renderer simply named "E2".
[edit] New Features
- Shader-based rendering (improved quality of lighting, normal maps, etc.)
- Realtime procedural junction tools and rendering.
- 64-bit support (ability to efficiently utilise larger quantities or RAM, and improved CPU performance.)
- Pervasive multi-threading (smooth operation of multiple tasks simultaneously, including background streaming.)
- Train vehicle motion simulation (track condition support, etc.)
- Multiple window support.
- Realtime shadowcasting from all objects (including track, buildings, trees, terrain, etc.)
- Physx support for pfx collision simulation.
[edit] System Requirements
T:ANE CE has a number of hard minimum requirements which sets it apart from Jet-based games in terms of the supported hardware. These include:
- The OS must be 64-bit.
- The GPU must support DirectX 11 or OpenGL 3.3.
