Displacement maps are for height adjustments, not placing a map on the ground to trace tracks, roads, etc. Resulting height range will end up from -127 to 127 in height depending on the colors used.

1. Clone one of Base displacement assets (e..g Volcano) in CM (Content > Clone)

2. Replace the .bmp with your version. Must be an 8 bit grayscale image. BMP or PNG. Color images will give unpredictable results.

3. Create a scaled down version of your image 240 pixels wide by 180 pixels high.

4. Edit the config file to use your KUID and change the asset username to something useful. Newer versions of Trainz, requires newer versions of the config file. Trainz 22, requires tag "trainz-build" to be a minimum of 3.5. Need "category-class" and "thumbnails" tag added. Thumbnail file name should match the file name of the thumbnail you created in previous step. Width and height should match what you created in previous step. See Groundbrush KIND for what the "config.txt" file should look like as a minimum.

5. You should have three files, "config.txt", displacement map image, and the thumbnail. Place all three files in a folder by themselves.

6. Within Trainz, select "file" from the top menu bar. Scroll down to "Import Content" and select that. Then find the folder that has only the files you want to import. Select that, then hit open. Your displacement map is ready for use.

7. In Surveyor V1, select Topology. At the bottom of that tab, click on advanced. Effect layer will be ground. Click on "None" and scroll to what you named it in username tag, within the "config.txt" file.
